For ultra/trail runners and backpackers to explore the wild parts of the Inland Northwest. Places where an organized race would be logistically impossible. Those who want to challenge themselves outside the structure of a race. Anyone who wants to move at their own pace and not worry about cut offs. For those who don't want to pay steep entry fees.
Inspired by the UltraPedestrian Wilderness Challenge in Washington state, the WIEC is a series of wilderness routes that you can attempt on foot. Registrations are posted on Ultrasignup.com. Just search WIEC.
Why pay to go run a route with no aid stations or course markings? Registration fees are very low and will cover website maintenance with all profits donated to trail maintenance groups like the Idaho Trails Association and the WMHCTA. It's basically a fundraiser, but you get to do an Ultra for Funsies, challenge yourself, and see some amazing scenery too. Everybody wins.
